Beautiful Invites – Dries Van Noten

Asked by Dries Van Noten to hand-paint 1,000 invitations for his fall show, which was inspired by Marchesa Casati, British artist Gill Button had about four days to complete the task.

Using a brush and ink, she depicted the dark eyes of the heiress in myriad ways. “Maybe she would be peering in from the left, then the right, higher or lower. Sometimes there would just be one eye, and on others a whole face,” she says. “Inevitably, there will be some that are similar, but yes, each invitation is definitely unique.”
